چکیده

Although analytical studies on the secular motion of the irregular satellites have been published recently (Kinoshita & Nakai 1999; Yokoyama et al. 2003), these theories have not yet been satisfactorily reconciled with the results of direct numerical integrations (Carruba et al. 2002; Nesvorný et al. 2003). These discrepancies occur because in secular theories the disturbing function is generally averaged over the Sun’s orbital motion, whereas instead one should take into account some periodic terms, most notably the so-called “evection”, which can be large for distant, slow-moving satellites. This problem is identical to that initially encountered by Newton and other historical researchers when studying the Moon’s motion. Here we demonstrate that the evection and other terms from lunar theory can be incorporated into the more modern Kozai formalism, and that our synthetic approach produces much better agreement with results from symplectic integrations. Using this method, we plot the locations of secular resonances in the orbital-element space inhabited by the irregular satellites. Our model is found to predict correctly those satellites that are resonant or nearresonant. We also analyze the octupole term in the disturbing function (Yokoyama et al. 2003) to determine the strengths of resonant-locking for satellites whose longitudes of pericenter are librating. By independently integrating these satellites’ nominal orbits using a symplectic integrator, we show that the strength of this resonance can be successfully obtained from simple analytical arguments. We note that the distribution of irregular satellite clusters in the space of proper orbital elements appears to be non-random. We find that the large majority of irregular-satellite groups cluster close to the secular resonances, with Department of Theoretical & Applied Mechanics, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853

Novel Radial Basis Function Neural Networks based on Probabilistic Evolutionary and Gaussian Mixture Model for Satellites Optimum Selection

In this study, two novel learning algorithms have been applied on Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) to approximate the functions with high non-linear order. The Probabilistic Evolutionary (PE) and Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) techniques are proposed to significantly minimize the error functions. The main idea is concerning the various strategies to optimize the procedure of Gradient ...

Comparison of Seismic Behavior of Buckling-restrained Braces and Yielding Brace System in Irregular and Regular Steel Frames under Mainshock and Mainshock-Aftershock

Due to low stiffness of braces after yielding, the structures with buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) experience high residual drifts during an earthquake, which can be intensified by aftershocks and causes considerable damages to structures. Also, due to poor distribution of stiffness, this problem is exacerbated for irregular structures. Recently, the yielding brace system (YBS) has been intro...

Irregular Satellites of the Giant Planets

The irregular satellites of the outer planets, whose population now numbers over 100, are likely to have been captured from heliocentric orbit during the early period of solar system history. They may thus constitute an intact sample of the planetesimals that accreted to form the cores of the jovian planets. Ranging in diameter from ~2 km to over 300 km, these bodies overlap the lower end of th...

Analysis of the dynamic behavior of the car user in the irregular terrain

Many people experience vibration effects on whole-body throughout their lives frequently. Vibrating energy absorbed is exposed all-body caused with vibration hazard in the vertically on body and biodynamic responses from body in speed 2.37 to 5.14 m/s could captivate with car seat on user body, so the vibration energy transferred to a seated people body. In this paper, the human body is modeled...
